Description
Size: 7.5-8.5 cm.

Color: Brown with two irregular rows of white patches along sides. Dorsal and anal hyaline with dark markings. Pectoral hyaline. Ventral brownish. Caudal hyaline, rays with brownish spots.

Head 3.7-4.3 in standard length, 4.6-5.2 in total length. Depth of body 3.6-3.9 in standard length, 4.4-4.8 in total length. Eye diameter 3.4-3.8 in head, interorbital space about two thirds of eye diameter. Gill opening an oblique slit above base of pectoral fin. Pectoral fin as long as head without snout. A large canine in lower jaw and a small one in the upper jaw. Cirrus above eye flattened or ciliate. Small skinny tentacles behind eye, over opercle, along lower preopercle margin, at nape and on chin. Nasal cirrus small. First three spines longer than others and separated by a notch from the rest of the chin. Last dorsal and anal rays joined to caudal peduncle by membrane. Swim with its tail oriented vertically. Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XI, 14-15; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: II, 14-15; number of rays in the pectoral fin: (14) 15; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 3.

Dioecious, external fertilization, guarders, nesters. Uses empty mollusk shells for nesting. Oviparous, distinct pairing. Eggs are demersal and adhesive.
