Size: 32.5 cm.

Color: In alcohol specimens uniformly yellowish white, the back brownish, often a more or less obscure blackish spot immediately below lateral line end of pectorals, fins hyaline. In life a yellow longitudinal stripe from eye to base of caudal, visible in alcohol specimens as a yellow line, a less distinct one above it and two or three similar lines below it and on cheeks.

Oblong, compressed, rather slender, its greatest height through origin of spinous dorsal 4-4.5 in length, head 3.1-3.5, much longer than deep, with its rostro-dorsal profile evenly arched. Eye situated nearer to hind border of operculum than to end of snout, 3.6-4.5 in head, its diameter much shorter than bluntly pointed snout and shorter than nearly flat inter orbital space. Mouth small, mandibula included, operculum with a single spine, barbels nearly reaching vertical margin of praeoperculum. Teeth in jaws in a villi form band, none on vomer and palatines, gillrakers 18-20, the 3 lowest rudimentary, on lower part of first branchial arch. Scales rather large, finely ctenoid, wanting on top of snout, lateral line parallel with dorsal profile, about 40 perforated scales, 2 or 3 on caudal. Origin of spinous dorsal about halfway distance from end of snout to vertical through origin of soft dorsal, the longest spine less than twice in head, second dorsal and anal somewhat concave, both without scales. Pectorals and ventrals of nearly equal length, about 1.5 to 1.6 in length of head. The deeply forked caudal equal to or somewhat shorter than head.
