Size: 6 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens dark brown. Body and tail with distant angulated black transverse bars, the angles pointing forward and the band thickest here. A dark blotch on caudal peduncle. Fins uniform light brownish hyaline. In the male the head is spotted or striped with dark on the side and below, similar spots also above pectorals. An elongate black, white edged ocellus on middle of posterior section of dorsal.

Height 5.5-6.1, 6.4-6.8 in length with caudal. Head 4.2-4.4, 4.9 in length with caudal. Eye 3.2-3.6. Snout short, four fifths or five sixths of eye. Inter orbital space narrow, slightly concave, equal to half diameter of eye. Head without tentacles. Mouth sub terminal. A long almost straight canine in the lower jaw. Gill opening a vertical slit, almost equal to eye, the lower end opposite middle of base of pectoral. Origin of dorsal behind vertical through hind border of preopercle and slightly before that through gill opening. The twelve anterior rays of the dorsal are not articulated and lower than the posterior ones, the longest of which equals post orbital part of head. Anal about as deep as anterior part of dorsal (female?) or almost as deep as posterior part (male?). Dorsal and anal ending opposite each other at a short distance from base of caudal. Pectorals as long as head without snout or almost as long as head. Ventrals equal to post orbital part of head. Caudal slightly rounded, the outer upper and lower rays may be produced into a short filament (male?).
