Description
Size: 6.5-6.9 cm.

Color: In alcohol specimens reddish brown, with a dark lateral band from head to base of caudal, where it ends in a large caudal spot, which however may be absent. A second band from upper part of opercle, along sides at some distance below profile of back. Upper part of first dorsal blackish. About 12 spiculated gillrakers on horizontal branch of first branchial arch, the anterior ones knob-like, the posterior ones long and slender.

Height 3.2-3.3, 3.8-4.2 in length with caudal. Head 2.6-2.8, 3.3-3.5 in length with caudal. Eye about 3, three fourths of their diameter apart. Snout about four fifths of eye. Praeoperculum denticulated, its ridge smooth as well as praeorbital. Mouth rather oblique, reaching to below hinderhalf of ye, lower jaw slightly included. Teeth in bands in jaws and on vomer and palatines. First dorsal spine minute, second one more than half of third, which is longest and strongest and equal to snout and eye together. Spine of second dorsal longer than second spine of anal and equal to postorbital part of head. Pectorals half diameter of eye longer than postorbitalpart of-head, ventrals somewhat shorter. Caudal feebly incised, the lobes rounded.

Dioecious, external fertilization, bearers, external brooders, mouthbrooders, distinct pairing during courtship and spawning.
