Max. size: 30 cm

Color: Bluish above and silvery below; pectoral black, other fins pale, opercular spot present.

Height about twice to 2.5 in length, head nearly 4 to 4.3, much higher than long. Eye about thrice in head, without adipose eyelids, slightly longer than or about equal to obtuse snout, half its diameter equals about greatest height of praeorbital. Lower jaw the longer, the upper reaches to below middle of eye. Dorsal spine weak, 4 or 5 times in height of body, lower. than anterior rays of dorsal, the second of which equals 1/3 height of body, the middle ones in old males, slightly so in females, somewhat prolonged into filaments, anal of similar construction. Pectorals falciform, longer than head, ventrals with a weak spine and elongated rays about as long as head, caudal deeply lobed, the lobes equal. Kiddle rays of soft dorsal and of anal greatly elongated, particularly in males.
