Description
Size: Maximum shell length 2.5 cm, commonly to 2 cm.

Color: outside of shell variable, white, cream, brown or purple, often with darker radiating rays. Interior glossy white, often with orange or purple irregular radiating bands.

The shell is moderately small, ovate and transversely elongate with fine concentric striae. Young specimens being proportionately more so. The surface of the shell is finely concentrically striated throughout. The radial keel extending from the umbo near the posterior margin is entirely absent in this species. The shell is inequilateral, the anterior side being much longer. The ventral margin bears a very slight, but distinct indentation towards the posterior end. The lunule is very narrow, elongated and not very well defined. Periostracum is thin and rather smooth. Hinge with 1 anterior and 2 posterior lateral teeth in right valve, against 1 anterior and 1 posterior laterals in left valve. The pallial sinus is broad, moderately deep, slightly inclined upwards and shaped like the tip of the thumb. The inner surface is smooth. There is no keel extending between the umbo and the posterior margin, The ventral margin bears a slight indentation at the posterior end; pallial sinus moderately deep Colour pattern variable. The outer surface is pale bluish grey or greyish blue with greyish concentric bands, rays or patches of brown colour.
