Size: 30 cm.

Color: In alcohol specimen reddish brown, with small white spots, widely separated, in 3 longitudinal rows, the middle one longer lateral line. Vertical fins blackish with a white border. Right pectoral with a black blotch.

Elongate, height 3, 3.5 in length with caudal. head 5, 5.8 in length with caudal. Eye 6, the upper one half in advance of the lower. Interorbital scaly, about half diameter of eye. Both nostrils on right side with swollen conical tubules. They are close together, before lower eye, a short barbel between them. Mouth curved, reaching beyond middle of lower eye. Snout hooked. Nostrils of blind side hidden by a cutaneous flap. Lower lip with row of short, fleshy tentacles. Origin of dorsal before middle of upper eye from which it is separated by one eyediameter. Rays of vertical fins, which have a scaly base, divided at their tip. Right pectoral almost equal to snout and eye, left one shorter, both with a short base. Ventrals rudimentary, about as long as eye united with each other and with anal. Anus on left side. Scales of head and neck on colored side not larger than the others, ctenoid on colored side, cycloid on blind side, but those of head on this side provided with cutaneous filaments and larger than the others. Opercular border with filaments, forming a fringe. Mouth small. A small tentacle between the nostrils. Scales on head and body similar in size. 2-3 row of spots on ocular side of body.
