Size: Length: 250 mm-400 mm; weight: 2-3 kg; Width: 100-150 mm; body wall 10-12 mm in thickness.

Color: Cream-colored with black blotches; This species occurs in two colour forms, the white and black; Dark brown or black on the top and white beneath or yellowish white mottled with black or brown on white background.

Body is massive and tubular in shape. Pedicels and papillae are indistinguishable. Dorsal papillae are more thinly scattered than the ventral pedicels. Anus is surrounded by five calcified papillae. Calcareous ring is massive with distinctly scalloped anterior margin . The radials and inter-radials are squarish. Radials are twice the length of the inter-radials. Tentacular ampullae are very large. Spicules consist of tables and buttons. The tables arc robust with smooth discs and the spires tenninate in 15-20 small spines. Spicules include hollow fenestrated ellipsoids and numerous knobbed buttons. The disc or the tables is rounded or square- shaped.Six to eight teat-like projections are seen on each side of the body in live specimens. The body is covered with a fine coat of coral sand.
