Size: 14 cm TL

Color: Juveniles and females with thick mid-lateral stripe and ocellus midway in dorsal fin. Latter fades to small spot in males.

Height 3.2, 3.8 in length with caudal. Head 3.3, 4 in length with caudal. Height of head 1.2 in its length. Eye 5.6, 1.8 in snout and 1.2 in slightly convex inter orbital space. Mouth moderate, nearly horizontal. Corner of mouth almost one eye diameter below level of lower border of eye. Maxillary not reaching to below anterior nostril. Lips thick, plated. Teeth conical, somewhat curved, the two anterior ones in the upper jaw long, more pointed, directed forwards and canines. The two anterior ones in the lower jaw caninoid. A strong posterior canine at corner of mouth. Head naked, excepting above, where the scales begin above hinder part of eye. About 11-12 rows of scales before dorsal, these scales much smaller than those of the body. Similar small scales between isthmus and ventrals. Scales of belly somewhat smaller than those of sides. Dorsal spine stiff and pungent, first as long as eye, second slightly shorter than snout, third as long as snout, following spines slightly decreasing in size, but the last spine as long as the third. First and second spines divergent. Soft dorsal higher than spinous part, the longest equal to snout and eye together. Dorsal pointed behind. First anal spine minute, third longest, slightly less than snout. Soft anal somewhat less deep than soft dorsal, pointed behind. Pectorals as long as head without snout. Ventrals pointed, the first ray slightly produced, equal to postorbital part of head. Caudal rounded. Dorsal spines (total): 9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 12.
