Size: 360 mm.

Color: Uniform gray, darker above, sides with alternating darker and lighter longitudinal bands, the latter corresponding with the centers of the row of scales, fins grayish.

Dorsal and ventral outline about evenly arched, height 2.2-2.4 in length, head 3.5-3.6, slightly longer than high, rostro-dorsal profile strongly convex. Eye 3.5-4 in head situated in anterior half of head, its diameter slightly shorter than snout, inter orbital space convex, much broader than eye. Preorbital naked, its lower border nearly entire, maxillary reaching front border of eye, gape of mouth rather small, horizontal, lower border of preoperculum serrate in young, operculum with a blunt point. Jaws with a single row of narrow, somewhat pointed incisors, minute teeth on vomer, palatines and tongue. Spinous dorsal about one third shorter than soft, fourth and fifth spine higher, but slightly lower than highest anterior portion of soft dorsal, the fourth and fifth rays of which are the highest, the posterior gradually diminishing in height. The anal anteriorly of similar height and about twice higher than third spine which is the longest, posterior rays gradually diminishing in size, their border somewhat concave. Caudal emarginate, lobes acute, least height of caudal peduncle more than twice in head.
