Size: 11.1 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens golden. A brown band from eye to middle of base of caudal. A second band above lateral line, from head to end of base of dorsal. a dark blotch between the second to fourth dorsal spines, not always present.

Height 2.8-3.2, 3.6-4 in length with caudal. Head 3-3.3, 3.8-4.1 in length with caudal.Eye 2.5-2.6, equal to snout, more than snout in small specimens. Inter orbital space somewhat convex, 1.4 in eye. Scales on head beginning between eyes, somewhat behind nostrils. Mouth oblique. Maxillary smooth, reaching to below nostrils. Slender curved teeth in bands in jaws, the bands tapering laterally. The outer row of teeth enlarged. Five transverse rows of scales on preoperculum. Preoperculum coarsely serrated behind, its hind border slightly scalloped. Suborbital spine slender, reaching to below hind border of pupil. No distinct spine below it. Dorsal spines slender. First spine much than half length of second, which is shorter than third. Third and fourth spine longest, equal to post orbital part of head and three fourths of eye. Following spines slightly decreasing in length. Tenth spine equal to post-orbital part of head and half eye together. Soft dorsal rounded, somewhat higher than spinous part. First anal spine half as long as second, which is stronger but slightly shorter than third. Third spine somewhat more than eye and as long as seventh dorsal spine. Soft anal rounded, deeper than spinous part, but less deep than soft dorsal. Pectorals almost as long as head, ventrals equal to head without snout. Caudal forked. Least height of caudal peduncle 1.5 in its length.
