Profile of head convex, snout rather blunt. Height of body measured in vertical through hind border of preoperculum, equal to or slightly less then length of head without operculum. Height 4.1-4.4, 5.2-5.3 in length with caudal. Head 3.3-3.4, 4.1-4.3 in length with caudal. Eye 2.9-3.1, slightly more than snout. Inter orbital space very slightly convex, almost flat, 1.3 in eye. Mouth somewhat oblique, maxillary reaching to below front border of eye. Jaws equal. A very narrow-band of small teeth in the anterior part of the jaws, continued laterally in a single row of about 15 larger teeth. In the upper jaw, before the band of teeth, eight strong curved canines, in the lower jaw 7 almost straight caninoid ones. Suborbital low, its lower border slightly emarginate, its height less than half diameter of eye, its posterior angle rounded and its hind border forming a more or less straight line, which, when produced, reaches the dorsal profile at a point about 5 scales before origin of dorsal. Preoperculum with 3 transverse rows of scales, its naked limb half as deep as the scaly part. Hind border of preoperculum finely denticulate. Scales beginning on head with a supra-temporal band of about 6 rows of scales, the median point of which reaches anteriorly to between middle of eyes. Dorsal spines stiff and pungent, the first three fourths of second, which is as long as third. Fourth and fifth slightly longer, sixth to tenth still somewhat longer, sub equal and somewhat more than post orbital part of head. The membrane between the spines scarcely emarginate. Soft dorsal rounded, scarcely higher than spinous part. First anal spine half as long as second, which is a trifle shorter than third and somewhat less than diameter of eye. Soft anal with the lower border rounded, pointed behind, deeper than spinous part. Pectorals half length of snout shorter than head, ventrals with the first ray somewhat prolonged, equal to head without snout. Caudal deeply forked, the lobes pointed and more or less produced into filaments. Least height of caudal peduncle more than twice in its length.

Remarks: Values in above description denote proportions.
