Description
Size: 65-72 cm.

Voice: Normally silent, makes buzzing calls during display.

Habits: Diurnal, occurs in small flocks, roosts and feeds communally, often solitary when hunting, breeds in colonies in mixed heronries from May to November.

Adult: Sexes alike, comparatively medium-size snow-white egret. Non-breeding: Often indistinguishable. Breeding: Develops filamentous plumes on breast as well as back, and the yellow bill (non-breeding) turns black.
