Description
Size: 20-30 cm TL

Color: Olive-brown in color overall with several ill-defined dark blotches and scattered blue spots on the sides, the dorsal ridge, and at the base of the dorsal fin. The fins are yellowish with the caudal fin dusky posteriorly.

The body is rigid, deep, very wide ventrally, and almost triangular in cross section. A large triangular flat spine usually with an acute tip is located on the dorsal ridge. The body is completely enclosed in a carapace except for openings for the small terminal mouth, anus, eyes, gill slits and fins. Dorsal spines (total): 0 - 0, Dorsal soft rays (total): 9 - 9, Anal spines: 0, Anal soft rays: 9-10.
