Size: 15-17 cm.

Color: Light brownish, head and body with numerous black dots, dorsal and anal blackish, caudal with a large spot near its upper and lower margins, pectoral with a large black spot occupying nearly the whole fin.

Height 2.2, 2.7 in length with caudal. Head 3.6, 4.5 in length with caudal. Eyes large, 2.6, opposite to each other, separated by a narrow flat space, which has about 4 rows of scales. Snout very short, with the jaws equal in front. Cleft of the mouth obliquely ascending upwards, the maxillary reaching beyond the anterior margin of the eye. Maxillary equal to eye. The dorsal fin commences above the middle of the eye, and is continued to within a short distance of the caudal. None of its rays elongate. Pectoral of right side equal to postorbital part of head, left one as long as snout and eye. Ventrals separate, opposite to each other, equal to eye. Scales feebly ctenoid on coloured side, cycloid on blind side. Caudal and right pectoral scaled. Left pectoral only scaled at base. Dorsal soft rays (total): 56 - 61, Anal soft rays: 46 - 50, Vertebrae: 38 - 39. Body depth is 1.9 to 2.6 times in SL. Upper-jaw length 3 to 3.5 times in head length.
