Description
Size: 10 cm.

Color: In specimens yellowish or brownish.

Elongate. Height 2.3-2.7, 2.7-3.1 in length with caudal. Head 3-3.3, 3.3-3.8 in length with caudal. Eyes somewhat more or less than 3, the posterior border of upper one, which is the larger in the vertical through middle of inferior one, separated by a bony keeled ridge. Snout about equal to eye. Maxillary about 1.5 in head, almost reaching to below hindborder of eye. Cleft of mouth strongly ascending, its anterior part horizontal and with a gentle curve, the praemaxillaries being convex and fitting in a concavity of the lower jaw, which has a prominent symphysial knob. Jaws with an outer row of pointed, curved, often hastate teeth and an inner row of smaller ones, which are however as large as the outer ones near symphysis. Head of vomer projecting into the mouth cavity and covered by small pointed teeth. Nostrils close together, below anterior part of superior eye, the upper one a longitudinal slit, the lower one rounded, both close to point of snout on blind side. Origin of dorsal beginning on blind side immediately behind point of snout below nostrils. The 3rd-6th ray long and filamentous, half as long as length without caudal in males. Anal beginning behind vertical through origin of pectoral, the posterior rays somewhat longer than the anterior ones. Caudal bluntly pointed. Scales deciduous, only absent on snout of colored side, where they are finely ctenoid, cycloid or with some fine denticulations only on blind side. No scales on fins. Top of curve of lateral line separated by two scales from dorsal. Right pectoral as long as head without snout, left one somewhat shorter. Right ventral slightly less than snout and eye, left one longer. Seven to eight slender gillrakers on lower branch of first arch, finely dentated behind.
