Size: 5.5 cm.

Color: Body above and sides olivaceous, variegated with brown, margaritaceous below. Sides of head spotted with brown, lower side of head with 4 equidistant brown spots, placed in a quadrangle. Fins flavescens or pinkish hyaline. An oblong black ocellus, edged with margaritaceous, between the third and fourth dorsal spines of first dorsal, which has anteriorly 3 or 5 narrow brownish violaceous, oblique, undulating bands. Second dorsal, ventrals, and caudal with small brown spots. Superior and median part of pectorals variegated with brownish points. Ventrals bordered with brown (Bleeker, 1879).

Height 9.5, 13 in length with caudal. Head measured from branchial opening 3.8, 5.2 in length with caudal. Eye 3.3, equal to snout. Inter orbital space narrow, one sixth of eye. Maxillary reaching almost to below front border of eye. Teeth pointed, crowded. Upper part of head behind eyes smooth in the middle, flanked on both sides by a rounded rugose patch. Lateral lines of both sides connected by a transverse branch on occiput. No anterior branch on head and no connection over caudal peduncle. Preopercular process short but strong, with an antrorse spine anteriorly, ending posteriorly in a somewhat hooked spine and with twp more spines on its upper border. First dorsal high, the spines filamentous, the third as long as head measured as above, the second one half, the first one fourth of head longer. Rays of second dorsal increasing in length posteriorly, the last ray almost as long as head. Caudal pointed.
