Description
Size: 10 cm.

Color: Identified by the large yellowish or pink breast spot and series of dusky to pink spots along base of dorsal fin.

Body shape elongated. No free crest in either sex, but on adult males a low fleshy ridge no higher than broad extends back to first dorsal spine. Nasal cirrus lanceolate, simple, with a constricted base, and as long as pupil. Supra orbital cirrus constricted at base, widening to slender lanceolate shape ,no side but tip bifid, with branches secondarily split in large specimens, as long as eye. Nuchal cirrus constricted at base, broad and leaf-like above, either ragged at end or with 2 or 3 short distal filaments. Forehead definitely projecting with a concavity between it and the upper lip. Both lips smooth. A short, blunt canine posteriorly on each dentary, barely projecting through membrane. Depth 5.0-5.4. Head 4.5-4.8. Spinous dorsal lower than soft dorsal, actually only slight notch between two, but last spines become progressively shorter so that the appearance of a shallow notch is given, membrane from last ray reaching just to the first small rays of caudal. All rays of male anal elongate with membrane between them deeply excised, but 3rd to 6th rays exceptionally elongate, being as long as head and a little longer than greatest depth of body. First few rays of female anal not especially elongate. Last anal ray partly bound to caudal peduncle by membrane. Last anal ray partly bound to caudal peduncle by membrane. Longest ray of pectoral shorter than head by length of snout and 2/3 eye.

Dioecious, external fertilization, guarders. Oviparous, distinct pairing. Eggs are demersal and adhesive.
