Max. size: 40.0 cm SL

Lateral body shape is lateral. Males easily recognized by the yellow pectoral fins and orange cheeks. Females plain grey with pale lines along abdominal area . The initial phase closely resembles that of S. globiceps and S. psittacus. Differences lie in the number of scale row and scales in the ventral side. Dorsal spines (total): 9-9, Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-10, Anal spines: 3, Anal soft rays: 9.

Protogynous, external fertilisation, nonguarders, open water or substratum egg scatterers.
