Head and second anal spine length are 29 to 33 per cent and 7 to 11 per cent of the standard length of the fish respectively. Soft dorsal is provided with 25 to 29 fin rays. Gas bladder is johnius type with anterio-lateral expansion and 14 arborescent tubules. Sagitta is johnius type. Lower jaw is provided with six mental pores and enlarged teeth. Caudal fin is lunate. Mouth is subterminal. Snout slightly projects beyond upper jaw. First dorsal is black. Opercle is provided with steel blue blotch.
