Height 6.35 in length with caudal. Head 5. Eye small, 7.5, 2 in snout, and 2.25 in somewhat convex inter orbital space. Mouth large. Lower jaw included. Maxillary reaching to below middle of eye. Villiform band of teeth on upper jaw broader than that on lower jaw; long narrow bands on palatines. Twelve gill rakers on lower branch of first arch, the seven ones nearest to angle rather long and slender, the five anterior ones much smaller. Five rather long and slender gill rakers on upper branch and a few rudimentary ones near its upper end. Opercular spine slender, pointed. Two small spines near angle of preopercle. Distance of origin of dorsal from tip of snout 3.09 in length with caudal, distance of origin of anal from tip of snout 2.9. Dorsal deeper than anal. Pectorals short, about half length of head. About 19 scales between origin of anal lateral line, and one scale between dorsal and lateral line, last named running close to the dorsal profile. The height of the scales of the lateral line equal to the dorsal profile. The height of the scales of the lateral line equals that of the eye.

Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; dorsal soft rays (total): 105-115; anal spines: 0; anal soft rays: 84-91.

Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass.
