Size: 52 cm.

Color: In alcohol uniform dark brown, fins, branchial and buccal cavities blackish.

Head and body compressed. Head about 5 times in length. Eye 4 to 5 in head according to length, 1.1 to 1.4 in the blunt snout and 1.2 to 1.3 in rounded interorbital space, which goes 3.4 to 3.5 in head. Snout in head 3.3 to 3.7, postorbital part about half length of head. Upper jaw 1.7 to 1.8 in length of head, it reaches to hindmargin of eye or nearly so far. Praeoperculum rounded, hindborder of operculum with two weak prominent spines. The intermaxillary band of teeth, has its inner portion narrow and shagreen-like. The mandibulary band is about half as wide. Gillrakers on first branchial arch 5+17 to 19, setiform. No mandibulary barbel. Scales thin and very deciduous, seven between lateral line and origin of second dorsal. First dorsal nearly not separated from the second, its first spine concealed, its second spine half length of head or somewhat more. Pectorals with the prolonged ray somewhat longer, their origin somewhat behind that of first dorsal. Origin of ventrals slightly before that of pectorals, their outer ray about equal to postorbital part of head.
