Size: 36 cm.

Color: Body dark gray on dorsal surface, merging to silvery gray ventrally. Tips of dorsal, pectoral and caudal fins dusky.

Robust and elongate body with concave head profile. Snout is depressed and angular. Median fontanelle groove is present on top of head that reaches to base of supra-occipital process. Supra-occipital process about 4 times as long as broad. Basal plate is small, V-shaped and present before dorsal fin. Skin of head on either side of fontanelle and behind eyes with tubercles. 3 pairs of barbels are present. Barbels around mouth shorter than the head. Teeth are villiform in shape in jaws; premaxillary tooth band distinctly divided in middle, about 4.5 times as long as broad; palatine teeth are globular and in 2 pear-shaped large patches, much convergent behind and placed at posterior extremity of roof of mouth. Dorsal fin has a slender spine. Pectoral fin as long as dorsal fin spine but slightly stronger.
