Size: 22-25 cm.

Color: Green to red above, red to whitish below, fins are green red. Caudal fin violet posteriorly.

Body is elongate, eel-like and compressed. Head long and compressed. Mouth oblique. A row of 3 indistinct barbels on lower side of head and either side. 2 dorsal fins. Pelvic fins united, oblong. Eyes are rudimentary but distinct, covered by skin. Mouth is oblique. Several short barbels may be present on underside of chin. Pectoral fin rays free and silk-like. Three anal fin pterygiophores preceding first haemal spine. Cycloid scales embedded on head and body. Caudal fin pointed and very long. Dorsal spines (total): 6-6, Dorsal soft rays (total): 34-41, Anal spines: 1, Anal soft rays: 32-39, Vertebrae: 27.
