Size: 27 cm

Color: Dark brown, lighter below. Blue spots or shiny spots on head and body. From eye to shoulder a dark brown band. First dorsal fin yellow brown to dark brown with light margin. Second dorsal fin light brown to dark brown with brown, dark longitudinal band in middle of the fin. Ventral and anal fin yellowish.

Body elongate, height about 6 in total length. Head about 4 in total length. Teeth in upper jaw in two rows, outer row 10-12 canines in front, inner row 2-4 smaller teeth. First dorsal fin convex, even when reduced, not higher than body. Second dorsal and anal fin lower than body. Ventral fins totally united, some times emarginate posteriorly, basal membrane well developed. Caudal fin obliquely rounded.

The fish is an amphibious air-breather that actively shuttles back and forth between rock pools and air.
