Description
Size: 14-20 cm.

Color: In alcohol, back above lateral line brown or pinkish, whitish below, a yellow longitudinal band from eye to caudal, pectorals, ventrals and anal more or less yellowish, dorsal fins and upper lobe of caudal with faded colored bands, top of upper caudal lobe posteriorly edged with black, the lower lobe posteriorly white edged.

Elongated, slender, dorsal and ventrals profile equally convex, height 3.8 to about 4 in length, head somewhat longer, its rostro-dorsal profile evenly arched. Eye 3.7 to 4 in head, equal to flat inter orbital space and conspicuously shorter than somewhat pointed snout, situated for its major part in anterior part of head and nearly touching profile of head. Mouth oblique, mandibula enclosed, maxilla with the hind margin rounded, reaching to below first third of eye. Barbels reaching to behind hind border of eye. Operculum with a spine. Gillrakers 14 on lower branch of first branchial arch and 6 lower rudimentary ones. Scales rather small, ctenoid, head scaly, praeorbital nearly naked. First dorsal acute, the first spine minute, the second the longest, about 1.4 in head, the following spines successively decreasing in size. Second dorsal and anal about equally high, concave, as long as post orbital part of head and half diameter of eye, base of both fins anteriorly scaly. Distance between first and second dorsal somewhat less than head without snout. Pectorals about 1.18 in head, somewhat longer than ventrals. Caudal deeply emarginate, the lobes pointed, the upper the longest, about equal to head.
