Size: Ambital diameter (D) = 9-50 mm.

Color: Purplish-brown, inter-ambulacral spines with fine to broad transverse white bands, tissue at base of spines light maroon (Humphreys, 1981).

Test (shell) globular. Ambulacral areas distinctly bulging aborally near the apical system. Ambulacral primary spines fine, needle-like, with backwardly pointed barbs near the distal end. Interambulacral primary spines stout, distinctly banded with green, with wide central cavity. Interambulacral areas near the apical system naked and greenish.
