Description
Size: 10-34 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens greenish, lower part of head reddish brown. Three longitudinal dull red bands on bands on body below the lateral line. Each band bordered above and below by bright light greenish blue bands, which form together six conspicuous longitudinal stripes. Fins blue. Two brown spots on chin and a similar spot on upper part of caudal peduncle at base of caudal.

Body shape elongate. Height 2.3-2.6, 2.8-3 in length with caudal. Head 2.8-2.9, 3.4-3.6 in length with caudal. Eye 3.8-4.7, 1.3-1.5 in pointed snout and equal to or slightly less than flat inter orbital space. Mouth small, almost horizontal. Corner of mouth far before eye. Preopercle with two transverse rows of scales, leaving the lower limb naked. Scales on upper part of head beginning above hind border of eyes. Five rows of scales before origin of dorsal. Dorsal spines sub equal, excepting the first, which is shorter, their length somewhat less than post orbital part of head. Membranes between the spines incised, each spine with a short filament. Soft dorsal rounded, the longest rays longer than spines. Origin of anal about below last dorsal spine. Second anal spine as long as snout, longer than first and third. Each spine with a long filament. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals rounded, as long as the somewhat more pointed ventrals and equal to post orbital part of head and half diameter of eye. Caudal slightly rounded. Identified by the brightly color lined pattern and the small ocellus on the caudal fin base. Dorsal spines (total): 9 - 9, Dorsal soft rays (total): 11 - 12, Anal spines: 3, Anal soft rays: 9.
