Description
Size: 9 cm.

Max. weight reported: 8,400 gm.

Color: Body light lavender or violet, paler ventrally; caudal fin dark lavender with a light margin, dark spots on top of head, conspicuous in younger specimens.

An elongate snapper of moderate size. Interorbital space flat; teeth in jaws in bands with an outer row of canines; teeth on tongue in a heart-shaped patch; median tooth patch on roof of mouth (vomer) diamond-shaped. Dorsal spines (total): 10-10, Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11, Anal spines: 3, Anal soft rays: 8. last soft rays of dorsal and anal fins extended into short filaments; pectoral fin as long as head and slightly falcate; caudal fin deeply forked. Scales small, 70 to 74 on lateral line; no scales on dorsal and anal fins.
