Description
Size: 315-521 mm.

Color: Greenish grey with dusky tinge above becoming yellowish white below. Lips orange, continued backwards as a broad yellowish band to opercle. A narrow dark streak on snout above the orange band. Dorsal and anal yellowish, narrowly edged with blue and with some bluish spots. Upper rays of pectoral pale bluish, rest of the fin hyaline. Caudal with three dusky blue vertical lines, outer edges of lobes bluish. Ventral yellowish.

Head 3.2 in standard length, 4.4 in total length. Depth of body 3.1 in standard length, 4.3 in total length. Eye diameter 6.6 in head, 3.2 in pointed snout and 1.7 in almost flat interorbital space. Lips broad, almost fully covering dental plates; dental plates white; two canines posteriorly in upper jaw. Four rows of scales on cheek, leaving a broad suborbital area and a preopercular limb naked. 4 predorsal scales. Nostrils minute, about one eye diameter before eye. Dorsal fin spines gradually decreasing in length to the last, first spine twice eye diameter, soft rays equal to anterior spines in length. Pectoral fin half length of snout shorter than head. Caudal lobes much produced.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: IX, 10; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: III, 9; number of rays in the pectoral fin: ii, 13; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 25; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 2+1+6½.
