Size: 367 mm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish above, lighter below. Belly with two more or less distinct white longitudinal bands. Dorsal and anal vinous red, darker towards the border. Pectorals and ventrals yellowish hyaline. A brown band along base of pectorals. Caudal light vinous red, the lobes darker.

Height 2.7-3, 3.1-3.6 in length with caudal. Head 3.1-3.2, 3.6-3.7 in length with caudal. Height of head 1-1.2 in its length. Eye 4.8-5.9, 1.7-2.4 in snout and 1.6-2 in rather convex inter orbital space. Corner of mouth half diameter of eye or more below level of lower border of eye. Upper lip with an almost straight lower border, covering half of the dental plate, which is white or pinkish. Anterior end of inner upper lip, where it joins the outer lip, nearer to symphysis than to corner of mouth. A posterior canine generally wanting. Two transverse rows of scales on cheek and two scales below them on posterior part or inferior part or inferior preopercular limb. Five scales before dorsal. Dorsal spines and rays sub-equal, somewhat shorter than snout, the membranes between them slightly scalloped. First anal spine very small, second somewhat shorter than third which is about equal to distance between eye and corner of mouth. Anal rays somewhat longer, sub equal. Pectorals as long as head without snout. Ventrals equal to snout and eye. Caudal somewhat rounded, the upper and lower lobes produced.
