Description
Size: 12-12.6 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens yellowish or brownish. A black blotch at occiput, in males at the base of the occipital hooks. Upper part of head and vertical fins more or less powdered with black chromatophores.

Height 2.3-2.7, 3.1-3.3 in length with caudal. Head 3.5-3.6, 4.3-4.8 in length with caudal. Eye 4.2-5.3, 1-1.7 in snout and 1-1.2 in convex inter orbital space. Mouth very oblique. Maxillary reaching to below hind border of eye. Lower jaw with a slightly prominent symphysial knob. Villi form teeth in both jaws, those anteriorly longer and more or less needle like. Minute conical teeth on head of vomer and on palatines. Preopercle with four spines near its angle, increasing in length posteriorly. Operculum very thin, paper like. Origin of dorsal slightly behind that anal, the rudimentary spines not counted. Second developed dorsal spine about equal to snout and half eye. first ray equal to head without snout. Following rays decreasing in length posteriorly, the last one slightly more than snout. Second anal spine about as long as second dorsal spine. Median anal rays longest, about equal to post orbital part of head and half diameter of eye. A strong spine backward between the ventral, which are equal to eye and snout. Pectorals as long as head. Caudal deeply forked, the lobes pointed.
