Size: 18.5 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens light brownish pink. A violet vertical band behind eye. Generally a dark band, two scales wide, from below anterior dorsal spine to behind axil of pectorals. A more or less distinct dark band along lateral line and upper part of tail may be present, from which band narrow dark more or less vertical lines sometimes branch off on tail and caudal peduncle, reaching to anus and base of anal. Snout and upper part of head brownish violet, cheeks pink. Fins white, dorsal sometimes with gray reticulations. A dark blotch may be present below sixth dorsal spine.

Height 4.3-4, 4.5-5.1 in length with caudal. Head 3.2, 3.7-3.8 in length with caudal. Height of head 1.3-1.4 in its length. Eye situated near dorsal profile, 4.5-5.5, 2.6-3 in snout and about equal to inter orbital space. Mouth horizontal. Maxillary reaching to below posterior nostril. Lips rather thick. First dorsal spine about equal to eye, last one somewhat longer. Membranes between the spine not incised. Soft dorsal not or scarcely higher than spinous part. First anal spine minute. third longest, equal to vertical diameter of eye. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals equal to head without snout. Ventrals equal to post orbital part of head. Caudal truncate or slightly rounded.
