Max length: 27.7 cm TL (male/unsexed)

Color: Bluish brown above, silvery below. Pectoral blackish, tip of fin and 4-5 lower rays hyaline. Caudal a little dusky. Dorsal hyaline, anterior two rays often slightly dusky. Ventral and anal transparent.

Head 3.8-4.2 in standard length, 5.2-5.6 in total length. Depth of body 4.6-4.9 in standard length, 6.1-6.5 in total length. Breadth of body 1.4-1.5 in its depth. Eye diameter 2.6-2.8 in head, 0.5-0.6 in snout and 1.2-1.3 in somewhat concave interorbital space. 2 or 3 rows of small tricuspid teeth in jaws and an elongate patch of teeth on palatines. Origin of anal fin below 6th to 7th dorsal ray. Pectoral fin reaching to posterior third of dorsal fin. Ventral fin longer than head, reaching to middle of anal fin, its origin midway between hind border of eye and base of caudal fin.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: 12-13; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: 8-9; number of rays in the pectoral fin: i, 13-14; number of spines and rays in the ventral fins: 6; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 43-46; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 8 ½ +1+2 ½ ; number of scales along the dorsal mid-line of the head and back, anterior to the origin of dorsal fin: 23-26; gill raker count: 5-6+16-17.
