Description
Size: 25-27.5 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens deep reddish brown. Sides of body, and tail with many narrow longitudinal light bluish stripes. Find dark as the body, dorsal with indications of longitudinal bands. Base of dorsal and anal posteriorly sometimes with a black blotch. Head and breast with light spots in life.

Height 1.9-2, 2.3-2.7 in length with caudal. Head 3.2-3.6, 4.4-5 in length with caudal. Eye 3.5-4.3, 2-3 in snout, and 1.1-1.4 in convex inter orbital space. Origin of dorsal in a vertical between eye and gill opening. First dorsal spine about half length of second, which equals eye. Following spines and dorsal rays radially increasing in height to about the 19th or 20th rays, which are as long as snout and half eye, the posterior rays rapidly decreasing in length, hence the fin is pointed. First anal spine very small, third longest, as long as longest dorsal spines. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals as long as head. Ventrals pointed, equal to snout and eye. Caudal forked, the lobes falcate, and somewhat produced in large specimens.
