Size: Max length 16.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)

Color: Brownish above, pale yellowish below, each scale of back with dark brown spot posteriorly. A bluish silvery lateral band bordered blackish above. Dorsal fin dusky, distal part of anterior rays darker. Caudal fin dusky. Pectoral and anal fins hyaline. Ventral fin hyaline, anterior rays slightly dusky basally.

Entire head 2.75 in standard length, about 3.1 in total length. Head from tip of upper jaw to hind margin of opercular flap 3.4 in trunk. Body compressed, breadth of body 1.2 in depth. Depth of body about 12 in standard length, 13.8 in total length. Length of lower jaw beyond tip of upper jaw 5 in standard length, 55.8 in total length. Eye diameter 4.1 in head from tip of upper jaw to branchial opening, 1.6 in postorbital length of head and equal to interorbital length of head. Upper jaw broader than long. Preorbital equal to eye diameter. Teeth in 3-4 bands in jaws. Origin of anal fin opposite to 2nd undivided ray of dorsal. Distance between origin of ventral and anal fins ½ preorbital length shorter than distance between angle of jaws and gill opening. Base of dorsal fin slightly longer than base of anal fin. Pectoral fin half eye diameter longer than postorbital length of head. Ventral fin 3/5 of pectoral fin, its origin midway between pectoral fin base and caudal fin base. Caudal fin deeply forked, median rays equal to eye diameter.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: ii, 14; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: ii, 16; number of rays in the pectoral fin: i, 10; number of spines and rays in the ventral fins: i, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 59; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 6 ½+1+2 ½; number of scales along the dorsal mid-line of the head and back, anterior to the origin of dorsal fin: 40.
