Size: 40 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish above, light below, the two color sharply separated or not. A dark spot on sides behind pectorals, or a narrow dark longitudinal band from head to caudal, consisting of a spots, each having one spot, may be present or absent. Dorsal and anal sometimes with light bands, each band with a narrow dark upper and lower border. Caudal brownish. Pectorals and ventrals hyaline.

Height 5.5-8, 6.3-9.2 in length with caudal. Head (With opercular flap) 2.8-3, 3.2-3.3 in length with caudal. Eye 5.5-10, 2.5-4.5 in snout and 1-1.5 in almost flat inter orbital space. Mouth horizontal. Maxillary reaching almost to below nostrils. About 10 scales before dorsal. First dorsal spine as long as eye, spines increasing in length posteriorly, longest almost twice as long as first, sub equal to soft rays. Dorsal membranes not incised. Soft dorsal somewhat pointed behind. Anal beginning below last dorsal spine. First anal spine shortest, as long as eye, second not much shorter than third, which is almost twice as long as first. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals somewhat rounded, as long as post orbital part of head without opercular flap. Ventrals much shorter, about half as long as snout or somewhat longer. Caudal slightly rounded.
