Size: 26.3 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens brownish violet. Scales of body with a lighter vertical streak. Sometimes a broad vertical diffuse band below dorsal, and the head and body before this band of somewhat darker color than the body and tail behind it. A broad light band connecting eyes over inter orbital space and a much narrower one behind it, running vertically from upper border of eye. Axil of pectorals very dark brown. Dorsal brownish violet, with round or elongate light ocelli and a broad light outer border. Anal light yellowish, with brown basal and sub terminal longitudinal bands. Caudal with the outer and middle rays light yellowish, the intermediate rays brown, forming to more or less distinct longitudinal bands on the fin. Ventrals yellowish, with a brownish longitudinal streak. Pectorals yellowish.

Height 2.5, 3 in length with caudal. Head 2.7, 3.2 in length with caudal. Height of head 1.1 in its length. Eye 8.1, 3.1 in snout and 2.3 in very convex inter orbital space. Mouth moderately protractile, small, somewhat oblique. Maxillary by far not reaching below anterior nostril. Lips rather thick, plated. Squamation beginning behind eye with about 10 rows of small scales, imbedded in the skin, to origin of dorsal. Breast with similar scales. Dorsal spines low, flexible. Their membranes thick, not incised. First dorsal spine shorter than eye, last about twice eye. Longest dorsal ray about thrice eye. Dorsal pointed behind. First anal spine about equal to eye, third longest, not quite twice eye. All spines flexible. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals equal to head without snout. Ventrals pointed, but without produced rays, equal to snout. Caudal truncate.
