Description
Size: 24 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens reddish-brown or bluish above, silvery below. A light band from upper margin of eye to base of caudal, running immediately below lateral line on body and immediately above it on tail. Dorsal anal and caudal with a reddish brown hue, tips of caudal black. Pectorals and ventrals yellowish.

Elongate. Dorsal and ventral profile gently curved from snout to tail. Height 3.4-3.7, 4.3-4.7 in length with caudal. Head 3.1-3.6, 4-4.6in length with caudal. Eye 3.5-4, equal to or somewhat more than snout and 1.2 in convex inter orbital space. Mouth oblique, maxillary reaching to below front border of eye or somewhat further back. One row of teeth in sides of upper jaw, in the lower jaw two or three rows of very small teeth in its anterior part, one row laterally. No teeth on palate. In older specimens only a few teeth remain. Supra-temporal bands of scales about 9 scales long, 3-5 scales deep, confluent in the middle. Origin of dorsal behind base of pectorals. First dorsal spine minute, third longest, equal to post orbital part of head or somewhat shorter, last dorsal ray slightly less than eye, the height of the fin gradually decreasing posteriorly. First anal spine minute, second and third sub equal, slightly less than eye, last ray about equal to half diameter of eye. Pectorals pointed, slightly less than head. Ventrals equal to post-orbital part of head, their origin at equal distance between origin of anal and front border of eye. Caudal deeply forked, the lobes pointed. Least height of caudal peduncle 1.5 in its length, equal to eye.
