Size: 25.5 cm.

Color: In preserved specimens dark purple brown. Dorsal and anal yellow, the tip of last ray of both deep brown. Caudal yellow, but the outer rays very dark brown. Pectorals purple brown at base, deepening into dark brown distally, the outer border grayish. Another specimens is brown, each scale of body with a basal dark spot. A spot at base of dorsal, last ray of dorsal and two posterior anal rays, upper and lower lobe of caudal, axil spot of pectorals, band through that fin and tip of ventrals, black. In life these black marking were as described, but the color of the animal was dark greenish blue, scales with a black center, fins verditer blue.

Height 3.8-3.9, 4.5-4.7 in length with caudal. Head 2.4-2.5, 2.8-3 in length with caudal. Eye 8.7-9.4, 4.5-5.2 in snout and 1.3-1.4 in somewhat convex inter orbital space. Mouth not reaching half way snout. Lips thick, plated. Conical somewhat hooked teeth in a single series in both jaws. Two hooked canines anteriorly in the upper jaw. In the lower jaw the six front teeth are somewhat larger than the others and somewhat directed forwards. 9-10 scales before dorsal. Dorsal spines shorter than eye. Soft dorsal much higher. First anal spine minute, hidden in the skin. Third spine not much longer than second, equal to eye. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal, pointed behind. Pectorals slightly falcate, as long as head without snout. Ventrals pointed, equal to post orbital part of head. Caudal semilunate, the lobes pointed.
