Size: 14 cm.

Color: Ground color pale brown above, whitish below, a blackish band, slightly narrower than eye, from neck through eye over interoperculum to chest where it is united with that other side, its front and hind border whitish, trunk crossed by about twenty blackish or paler narrow angulate stripes, corresponding to the transverse series of scales, the angles bent toward head and situated in a line running from eye to middle of caudal, below lateral line two elongate oval pale patches, soft dorsal and anal with a violet intra marginal line, base of caudal black, with a broad yellowish border and an intra marginal dark line.

Height 2.4-2.6, head 3-3.5 in length. Eye somewhat more or less than 3 in head, equal to or little less than convex inter orbital space and equal to or slightly longer than snout, which has the lips somewhat swollen. Last dorsal spine the longest, about half length of head. First anal spine short the following three sub equal the third the longest. Pectorals acutely rounded, smaller than head, ventrals acute, the first ray prolonged nearly reaching vent, their spine equal to head without snout. Caudal truncate, least height of its peduncle greater than eye. For other characters see those of the genus.
