Description
Size: 42-102 mm
Color: Uniform light brown. Dorsal brown, distal margin darker. A black spot at base of posterior soft dorsal rays. Anal brownish, darker distally. Ventral pale brownish, anterior rays darker. Pectoral pale with a black spot on the base of upper rays. Caudal pale brown.
Head 3.0-3.2 in standard length, 4.1-4.3 in total length. Depth of body 2.0-2.2 in standard length, 2.6-2.7 in total length. Eye diameter 3.3-3.6 in head, 1.0-1.2 in snout and equal to or slightly less than interorbital space. Teeth uniserial, truncate, in jaws. Hind part of preorbital and suborbital strongly serrated. Hind border of preopercle serrated. Suborbital and poisterior part of preorbital scaled. Three rows of scales on preopercle, its lower and hind edge naked. Pectoral fin 1/2 eye diameter shorter than head. Ventral fin slightly longer, equal to length of head. Scales on upper part of head reaching nostrils.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XII, 15-16; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: II, 13-14; number of rays in the pectoral fin: ii, 17; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 18-19+9; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 3+1+10.
Remarks: Values in above description denote proportions.
