Elytra fringed, with flat, carinulate and large spherodical echinate papillae, dorsal setae slender; ventral setae bidentate.

Similar species: Elytra more conspicuously echinate or stellate than in Lepidonotus carinulatus, but in both species there is a large range of variation in the number and size of the spinous tubercles. Both are closely allied to Lepidonotus squamatus.
