Size: 45 cm.

Color: Fawn or light brown with crescent-shaped markings of purple-brown, interior orange-yellow or reddish, columella dark brown in the interstices between white lirae.

Body whorl swollen, spire high and pointed, varixes broad but low, sculptured with smooth, wide, rather flat spiral ribs and a single, narrow, axially-plicate rib at the suture, outer lip bearing 9-12 pointed teeth, columella with strong bifid lirae along its whole length. A distinctive shell, up to 50 cm, with a pointed spire and a large body whorl. Exterior creamy with darker brown dashes and chevrons. Aperture large, orange, and with banded lip.
It is the largest member of the family and one of the largest of all gastropods.
