Size: 20 cm.

Color: Exterior colour variable, white-cream with brown or bluish patches, interior rich pink, orange or purple-tan.

Spire moderately high, pointed, stromboid notch deep, body whorl rough with spiral striae and heavy shoulder nodules, shoulders of the spire whorls sharply angulate, columella and ventral surface of the body whorl glazed.

Sexual dimorphism is pronounced in most populations. Males tend to be smaller and their three lower spines may be short and hooked. Females usually have longer, upwardly curved spines and large shoulder knobs.
