Description
Size: Length of carapace: 19 mm; breadth of carapace (excluding lateral spines): 23 mm; length of lateral spine: 8 mm.

Color: Color of the carapace bright yellow with vermicular red lines, which usually form spots or incomplete rings on the anterior half of the carapace and narrow longitudinal loops posteriorly.

There is no spine, only a tubercle, at the angle of the hand where it touches the external angle of the arm.

Matuta planipes differs from Matuta victor in having a single spine on external surface of male chela, straight lateral frontal lobes and carapace covered with reticulated loops as compared with the bispinose chela, rounded lobes and minutely spotted carapace of the latter.
