Color: In alcohol specimens yellowish, with narrow or broader longitudinal stripes, a median one from snout, dividing at base of dorsal, united again behind second dorsal and running to upper part of caudal, where it may be continued on the outer caudal rays. Second one from snout above eye along upper part of sides to base of caudal, where it unites with the first one. The third from snout, interrupted by the eye, running along median line of head and body to base of caudal, where it ends before a black spot, encircled by light yellow. Fourth stripe from tip lower jaw, below eye through base of pectoral to inferior part of base of caudal, where it unites with the fifth one, and may be continued on lower caudal rays. Fifth stripe from chin to base of anal, behind this fin it unites with that of the other side and is continued on lower side of caudal peduncle. A sixth median stripe on brest from istmus to anus, running between the bases of pectorals. Anterior border of dorsal blackish. Second dorsal, anal and caudal more or less dusky. Pectorals and ventrals yellowish.

Height 3.2-3.8, 4-4.6 in length with caudal. Head 2.6-2.8, 3.2-3.6 in length with caudal. Eye about 3, snout three fourths or seven eighths of eye. Interorbital space about half eye. Mouth scarcely oblique. Jaws equal. Maxillary reaching to below posterior half of eye. Narrow bands of villiform teeth in the jaws. Two canines on each side in the anterior part of the praemaxillary. A small canine on each side near symphysis of lower jaw, and about five, decreasing in size posteriorly, in the middle of each ramus. Vomer and palatines with small teeth. Free border of praeoperculum serrated, other bones of the head with smooth borders. Dorsal spines weak. First one more than half length of second, which is equal to third and about as long as postorbital part of head. Spine of second dorsal and second spine of anal subequal, only slightly shorter than longest spine of first dorsal. Hindborder of second dorsal and of anal rounded. Caudal incised, the lobes rounded. Ventrals slightly shorter than pectorals and equal to eye and snout. Least height of caudal peduncle equal to eye and twice in its length.
