Size: 5-10 cm.

Color: In alcohol specimen yellowish brown, sides of head and lateral band on body and tail silvery, accompanied by a bluish stripe. Membrane between second and third dorsal spine dusky, blackish distally.

Oblong. Height 2.5, 3.2 in length with caudal. Head 2.8, 3.5 in length with caudal. Eye 3-3.2. Snout slightly more than interorbital space, 4 in head. Maxillary reaching to below anterior border of pupil, its posterior end somewhat dilated, the hinderborder oblique and slightly emarginate. Chin prominent. Mouth oblique. Pointed teeth in a few rows in jaws, in a single row on vomer and palatines. Teeth on tongue. Praeorbital bluntly serrated. Praeoperculum and praeopercular ridge serrated in their horizontal part. Interoperculum smooth, with a single tooth at posterior angle. Orbital rim rough. Supraorbital ridge smooth, ending posteriorly in a single. Two rows of scales on checks. Dorsal separated from occiput by 14-16 scales. First dorsal spine small, second one less than head without snout. Third anal spine longer than second one, about equal to eighth dorsal spine and slightly less than eye and snout. Pectorals shorter than head, but longer than ventrals, which are equal to head without snout. Caudal deeply forked. Lateral line continuous or interrupted on one or both sides, the interruption being almost always of one scale only.
