Description
Size: 25-42 cm.

Color: Of female form brown, reddish brown ventrally, male form olive. Blue-edged bar on pectoral base dusky orange-red in female, orangish to dusky in male.

Height 2.7-2.8, 3.2 in length with caudal. Head 3, 3.5 in length with caudal. Height of head 1.1 in its length. Eye 7.2, 2.8-2.9 in snout and 1.8-1.9 in very convex inter orbital space. Mouth moderately protractile, somewhat oblique. Maxillary reaching nearly to below anterior nostril. Lips rather thick, plated. Squamation on superior part of head beginning behind eyes, about 10 rows of small scales, imbedded in the skin, before dorsal. Breast with similar scales. Dorsal spines flexible, but pointed. Dorsal membrane thick, not incised. Dorsal slightly increasing in height posteriorly, the first spine shorter than eye, the last ray almost as long as snout. Dorsal pointed behind. First anal spine shorter than eye, third spine somewhat longer than eye. Soft anal similar to soft dorsal. Pectorals equal to head without snout. Ventrals as long as snout and eye together. Dorsal spines (total): 9-9, Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13, Anal spines: 3, Anal soft rays: 11-13. Head with narrow dark-edged blue bands, male usually with a broad band across anterior inter orbital space. Scales on body with dark-edged light blue spots (female) or vertical lines (male). Dorsal spines flexible. Caudal fin truncate to slightly rounded.
