Description
Size: 17 cm.

Color: Bluish green on back, becoming pale yellowish below. Sides of body with five dark brown transverse bands narrower than interspaces, tapering and fading ventrally. The second, third and fourth bands continued on to the base of dorsal. A black spot superiorly on base of pectoral. Dorsal blackish. Anal pale yellowish, median part dusky. Caudal pale, lobes with a dusky longitudinal band. Pectoral yellowish. Ventral pale, outer rays dusky.

Head 3.0-3.2 in standard length, 4.2-4.4 in total length. Depth of body 1.8-2.0 in standard length, 2.5-2.7 in total length. Eye diameter 3.4-3.6 in head, 0.8-0.9 in snout and 1.1-1.3 in interorbital space. Teeth uniserial in jaws, truncate. Preorbital and suborbital scaly. 3 ½ rows of scales on preopercle, the inferior and posterior limbs scaly. Scales on head reaching beyond nostrils. None of the opercles serrated. Pectoral fin slightly longer than head. Ventral fin shorter than pectoral and equal to head.
Number of spines and rays in the dorsal fin: XIII, 13; number of spines and rays in the anal fin: II, 12-13; number of rays in the pectoral fin: ii, 16-17; number of spines and rays in the ventral fin: I, 5; number of scale rows along the lateral line: 19-20+7-9; number of horizontal scale rows usually counted from origin of the dorsal fin to the lateral line and from anal origin to the lateral line: 3 ½ +1+11.
